Chicago Moving Company’s landmark 40th Anniversary Season honors InterArts Faculty Member and CMC Founder

Dance works from the past are re-invented, twisted, broken, amplified, flipped, and then blasted through a time tunnel to the twenty-first century in Cover Band.

CMC founder Nana Shineflug, who has a joint faculty appointment in both the InterArts and Dance departments at Columbia, invited five of Chicago’s most original choreographers to “cover,” or create and perform their own version, of past repertory works she originally choreographed. Ms. Shineflug chose each work with a specific choreographer in mind, and the five dance-makers were allowed full creative rein to “riff” on the originals—resulting in brand new works of their own.

The series features innovative work and performances by BONEdanse, The Dance COLEctive, Matthew Hollis, Peter Carpenter Performance Project, and Same Planet Different World Dance Theatre.

Performances will take place at the beautiful and intimate Hamlin Park Fieldhouse Theater at 3035 North Hoyne Street in Chicago, on September 20 + 21, 2012, at 7:30 pm. Accompanying the groundbreaking performances are two companion exhibitions in the field house theater lobby: Costume RETROspective features selected notable CMC costumes from the past four decades, and What the Camera See will showcase forty years of CMC photographic images.

Tickets for all performances are available here.
