Book and Paper MFA alumna Laurie LeBreton’s paper installation artwork River Song is featured in the new Woman Made Gallery exhibition Inspired By: Celebrating Illinois Women Artists. The exhibition opens August 24, with a reception from 6:00–9:00 p.m., and runs until September 27.
The show was juried by sculptor and former NEIU gallery director Mary Stoppert. She selected 47 Illinois women artists, and the pieces reflect a wide range of media and styles. The instigating factor for the exhibition was that each piece had to be inspired by a specific artist. This inspiration could occur in several different ways: approach to or use of subject matter; process; materials; or technique. LeBreton’s chose as her inspiration Melissa Jay Craig, the Chicago-base book, paper, and installation artist.
