Book and Paper MFA Exhibits Work Around the U.S.

The first group exhibition is the Rocky Mountain Artbook Collection at CIAO Gallery in Jackson WY. The exhibition concept involved providing participants with a blank sketch book to do whatever they pleased artistically, over the course of four months. There were themes suggested, but alternate theme ideas were welcomed. “I chose to do something outside my normal parameters, to test myself,” said Kathi. “My book explored the theme ‘All About ME.’ New things arose out of working with this idea, but as anyone who knows me would expect, it does contain some wry humor.”

Drift Station’s Bookstore

Moving next door, state-wise, the next stop for her work is Drift Station in Lincoln, Nebraska, an artist-run, alternative curatorial platform dedicated to exploring new and experimental forms of curatorial practice. Quick Sketch, a subtle pocket book about seeing the figure, is in their Bookstore exhibition, a temporary store of over 1,000 artist books, ‘zines, & other unusual print publications on display from March 2–April 25, 2012. Quick Sketch was printed last year at CBPA by Kathi as part of her Offset Fellowship, under the direction of Brad Freeman, editor of the Journal of Artists’ Books.

Quick Sketch

Heading to the warm breezes in the southeastern U.S., Kathi’s the little book of nothing much was accepted in the Pictures of Nothing exhibition at JF Gallery in West Palm Beach, FL. Kathi’s one-of-a-kind artists’ book explores feelings of invisibility within social spectrums, from childhood through adult experience.
