Leading a year-long inquiry into the role that the performing arts play in fomenting social changes, the UK based multimedia art collaborative motiroti will convene a series of community meetings at historic sites of radical intervention including Columbia College, Dorchester Project, Hull House, and En Las Tablas. Additionally, in the fall, they will host a discussion on the efficacy of their actions and share strategies on running non-for–profit arts agencies. In the spring of 2012, they will return to run a series of workshops in which participants will address pressing community concerns and challenge the segregation of our neighborhoods.

A “potluck” is a meal to which different visitors each contribute a dish. Lifting each lid releases aromas and tastes that trace the journeys of those who prepared it. Conceived by motiroti as the Critical Encounters’ Artists-in-Residence, the Potluck relies on collaboration with Columbia College Chicago, The Dorchester Project, En Las Tablas, and the Jane Addams Hull-House Museum. It’s a menu of creative adventures – food exchanges, art workshops and public gatherings – that aim to bridge cultural divides, build a toolkit for increasing social connections, and kick-start new communities.
