Columbia College Chicago Theatre Alums and Faculty Celebrate Sci-Fi/Fantasy Theatre in ‘Paragon’ Oct. 1-2

Otherworld Theatre Company — a troupe founded and led by Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alumni — presents its second annual Paragon—Sci-Fi/Fantasy Theatre Short Play Festival Saturday and Sunday, October 1 and 2, at the Public House Theatre, 3914 N. Clark, Chicago. Paragon features 40 short plays over the course of just two days, showcasing 38 playwrights, 37 directors and 110 actors.

“We had submissions from all over the world,” says Otherworld’s founder and artistic director, Columbia College Chicago alum Tiffany Keane Schaefer ’12, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s Theatre Directing Program. “Over 180 theatrical artists, both local and international, are collaborating to increase exposure for this under-served theatre genre.”

Among the artists directing plays in Paragon are Columbia College Chicago alumni Tiffany Keane Schaefer; Arianna Soloway ’13, also a graduate of the Theatre Directing program; Dylan Schaefer ’12, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s BA Program in Acting; and current student Makena Metz, a senior in the Theatre Department’s Theatre Directing Program with a minor in playwriting. Also participating is playwright Joe Janes, a Columbia College Theatre Department faculty member.
