A+D Gallery Hosts Mixed Media Show Featuring Faculty Work

CHICAGO (July 24, 2013) – Columbia College Chicago’s Averill and Bernard Leviton A+D Gallery presents Construction, opening August 15 for a month-long run. Curated by Sabina Ott, this exhibition addresses how artists invent new realities by challenging old constructs of race, gender and national identity.
Featuring works by faculty from Columbia College’s Art + Design, Interdisciplinary Arts, Film and Video and Photography departments, these artists use a variety of media including film, sound, sculpture, installation, drawing and photography.
This exhibition is partially sponsored by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council.

Sabina Ott, Professor of Art in the Art + Design Department of Columbia College Chicago, has exhibited her work internationally in exhibitions such as the first Auckland Triennial in Auckland New Zealand, the Australian Contemporary Arts Center in Melbourne, Australia as well as the Contemporary Art Museum in St. Louis, Missouri and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. Her work is in the collection of the Corcoran Museum of American Art, Washington DC; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles, Calif.; the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; The Saint Louis Art Museum, and the Orange County Museum of Art, Newport, Calif.a among others. She has received a National Endowment for the Arts Individual Artists Grant and a Howard Foundation Grant from Brown University, She has curated numerous exhibitions and is the founder and Director of Terrain Exhibitions, a front yard project space in Oak Park, IL.
The Averill and Bernard Leviton A+D Gallery is part of the Art + Design Department at Columbia College Chicago. The gallery’s mission is to present professional exhibitions and educational programming that encompasses the broadest possible definition of visual art and design. This is a direct reflection of the pedagogical diversity of the Art + Design Department and the vast array of ideas, media, and techniques explored by artists today. The gallery presents emerging and established artists whose work reflects any of the disciplines taught in the department including Fine Arts, Interior Architecture, Illustration, Advertising Art Direction, Product Design, Graphic Design, and Art History.
