I’LL TAKE YOU THERE: HOMAGE TO BLUES AND GOSPEL
Multimedia Performance Showcases Musical Talents of Columbia College Chicago’s
Music Department Faculty, Alumni and Department Ensembles
WHAT: “I’ll Take You There: Homage to Blues and Gospel” is a fast-paced 90-minute show paying tribute to two of America’s most beloved musical genres. Columbia College Chicago Music faculty will be joined by Columbia students and other outstanding Chicago artists to celebrate music makers that have contributed to the history, culture, traditions and evolution of these musical genres.
The roster of performers includes contemporary gospel singers Leanne Faine, Jonathan MacReynolds and LaShera Moore, blues singer/guitarist Fernando Jones, contemporary singer H.E. Baccus and jazz/blues singer Bobbi Wilsyn. The Columbia College Chicago Gospel Repertory Ensemble will lend their talents to the performance as well.
This multimedia performance, featuring projections of images and historic paintings from the 1950s, ‘60s and ‘70s to provide background and context for the music, will highlight the influences of Africa and the rural South in gospel and blues.
