The Final Count Down!

Clock

I’m enjoying this Chicago summer. It’s my favorite time of year in the city. So much is happening and because I’m not in classes I have time to enjoy some of it. I’m grateful to have some time to refresh before the fall semester, however my cohort and I still have some homework to finish before the first day of classes.

4 micro Documentaries on New Media Topics

4 micro Documentaries on New Media Topics

So, I just finished my second year in the Interdisciplinary Arts and Media M.F.A. program and again, I have learned a ton and been challenged in ways I never expected. I’ll give more of a summery of the year in a future blog post once I’ve had a few days to processes the whirlwind of a semester that just ended, but for now I’ll share one of the semester highlights. The video essay for Paul Catanese’ Class, History of New Media.

Installation Review

Chicago artist coalition show Augur

As someone who is interested in developing a sustainable art practice here in Chicago, I need to get more in the habit of writing reviews about other peoples’ work.  It’s hard to find time in grad school to get out, let alone write reviews on the work I see, but this week I went to go see Augur by Marissa Lee Benedict at the Chicago Artist Coalition (a wonderful organization dedicated to supporting local Chicago artists).

Performance and the Projected Image

There are so many directions you can go in the Interdisciplinary Arts and Media program at Columbia College Chicago. Finding some kind of focus is up to each individual student. Though I have been experimenting with a variety of media since I’ve been in the program I have found myself working a great deal with the projected image in performance.

Why do I do this Art stuff again? Oh yeah, because I think it’s fun.

Dreams of a Possible End

Dreams of a Possible End

The other day a professor of mine was telling me the story of his first performance in Chicago back in the 70’s. Nothing was going right. There were so many technical problems. He was sure this was going to be a disaster. He shared his feelings about the performance with a friend and the friend told him, “Remember, you are doing this because you want to. Because you think it’s fun.” Jeff remembered to have fun and the performance went wonderfully.
