Just take the first step

In times of stress, finding inspiration to stay focused can be hard.

Growing up, I always had a love-hate relationship with writing.

As a lifelong reader, I dreamed of sharing my thoughts in the same powerful ways as my favorite writers.

Books took me to distant far-off lands where life seemed so much easier than the world I was living in. The vivid imagery that the words gave me was often even brighter than what was around me.

Girl, I feel you.

I knew that somehow, someway I wanted to give that gift to someone else.

Almost a month into my second semester in the Journalism, MA program, keeping that dream hasn’t been easy.

Through sleepless nights, looming deadlines and constant push and pull from every direction, I often wonder if I’m fully capable and prepared to pursue my interests.

I’ve often doubted my abilities and second guessed my choices, but at the end of every day, I try to remind myself of one thing: The same strength that books gave me deserves to be given to someone else.

Writing gave me the greatest gift: hope.

I channel that hope whenever I need inspiration.

I hope that while you continue your applications and start making your decisions, trust in why you decided to become a journalist. It’ll guide you where you need to go.

I did, and it led me here.
