Passing the Torch

The time has finally come for me to say goodbye to my role as the president of MOVED, and officially pass the torch on to the next lucky recipient! It has been such an amazing year. I have learned so much more about the realities of collaboration, accountability, perseverance, expectation, delegation and inspiration. MOVED has also shown me just how influential our dance/movement therapy community can truly be!

(Masters Organization Volunteering and Educating about Dance/Movement Therapy) is comprised of the graduate students within the Dance/Movement Therapy & Counseling, MA program here at Columbia College Chicago. It is our mission to promote dance/movement therapy as a healing technique through sponsoring and volunteering at events for students and faculty on and around campus, as well as for members of the greater Chicagoland community. MOVED, as an organization and a part of Columbia College Chicago’s student organization committee (SOC), continues to uphold the tradition of the hard work and dedication set during the previous years and will continue to promote the integration of body, mind and spirit in dance/movement therapy for the future.

The mission of MOVED definitely speaks to most of us within the Dance/Movement Therapy & Counseling, MA program because of its determination to spread the word of dance as a healing modality. I have to admit, it is definitely not the easiest job to be the president of any sort of organization—no matter how big or small! However, it was a challenge that I accepted with a full heart, and I am very grateful that I was given the opportunity to make my mark in MOVED history. I of course had the help of my executive board, who continually supported the productivity of MOVED events along the way. As a team, we were able to collect hundreds of dollars for NAMIwalks, produce an entire dance concert, volunteer in the community, and continually spread the word of dance/movement therapy through social media. I’m very proud of the work we have accomplished, and I can’t wait to see what MOVED has in store next!IMG_0385 IMG_1284
