The latest edition of the Columbia Chronicle has the full story on the work in progress on the Papermaker’s Garden. Originally the bike lot adjacent to the garden was going to be integrated into the second phase of the garden development. But due to its chronic underutilization, school administration decided to instead close the space for bike parking, and include that area in the Papermaker’s Garden plans. The well-publicized plans revolve around interdisciplinary usage for the entire campus along with south loop community involvement. Located at the corner of Wabash Avenue and 8th Street, the garden is the center of the Wabash Arts Corridor initiative, a plan to cover the stretch of Wabash Avenue between Congress and Roosevelt with public art from the college. The garden is scheduled to be a major part of this year’s WAC Crawl Sept. 18, and expansion design plans show an area for live performances.
