Caxton Club Grants Call for Entry

The Caxton Club is calling for submissions for its 2013–2014 round of grants for book-related research projects.

The grants of up to $2,500 each will help pay for expenses related to projects in the fields of book arts, bibliography, history of the book, library studies and print culture studies. The grant is to be used within one year from award notification. Library workers and other professionals who would like additional training in these fields are especially encouraged to apply.

The grant program was originally begun more than a decade ago to help fund projects at Columbia College Chicago’s Center for Book and Paper Arts. The Caxton Club has since opened it up to a much wider geographical area, the entire Midwest. Generally two grants have been have been made each year.

“We have been extremely impressed by the talent and hard work of our applicants, the creativity of their projects, and simply their love of the book,” said Wendy Husser, a Caxton Club member who was on the grant committee when it was first formed. “It is a pleasure to help them with the means to pursue their passions.”

Applicants must supply a one-page statement of interest, providing the title, description and statement of how the project is relevant to the Caxton Club’s mission. They must be enrolled in a Midwestern graduate program in Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Iowa, Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota, Kentucky, Missouri, and North or South Dakota.

Applicants are encouraged to submit materials or samples of work supporting the grant. All samples and past work will be returned.
