The Interdisciplinary Arts Department would like to Congratulate Shalaka Kulkarni (3rd Year, Interdisciplinary Arts and Media) and Morehshin Allahyari (1st Year, Interdisciplinary Arts and Media) for being awarded two of the coveted spots in the 2009/10 Critical Encounters Artist-in-Residence Program: La Pocha Nostra! This is a very exciting opportunity to work with renowned Mexican-American performance artists Guillermo Gómez Peña, Violeta Luna & Roberto Sifuentes in an intensive artist workshop comprised of twenty participants, including students from Columbia College joined by practicing artists, educators and community members – and of course, our very own Shalaka and Morehshin! Congratulations to them, once again!
The Interdisciplinary Arts Department now has a Facebook Page!
Students, alumni, faculty, staff, friends, and like-minded creative individuals are already there! This link leads you to the Interdisciplinary Arts Facebook page where you too can join in the community!
At Close Distance: Labyrinth of Self is a graduate student exhibition of interdisciplinary art work – and is open to graduate students in all Columbia graduate programs. Curated by Interdisciplinary Arts Gradaute Student Laura Miller and Fiction Writing Graduate Student Eliza Fogel, the show will open on November 11th 2009 and will remain up through February 12th 2010. These dates coincide with the College Art Association Annual Conference, which will be visiting Chicago in February 2010! The deadline for proposals is October 2nd. Details about the show and the full call for proposals is online now at the Student Loop website.
The Interdisciplinary Arts Department would like to extend a warm welcome to our new MA and MFA students and a heartfelt welcome back to all of our returning students. We hope you have had a restful, productive and energizing summer break – and are ready to dive in to all that is coming up.
