Anchor Graphics Artist in Residence Exhibits Work at Northwestern University

The work of J. Thomas Pallas, Anchor Graphic’s winter 2013 Artist-in-Residence, is on exhibit at the Northwestern University Norris Center’s Dittmar Gallery. The exhibition, The Institute for Encyclopedia Amalgamation, is part of his ongoing investigation of the digitization of knowledge and the “obsolescence” of print culture, primarily the once-revered encyclopedia. The Institute for Encyclopedic Amalgamation (IEA) collection serves as a repository and sanctuary for abandoned encyclopedia sets. As Editor-in-Chief of the IEA, Jason Pallas transvalues a collection of these once ubiquitous tomes of knowledge into artistic material that challenge and engages the public to consider how technology has changed our relationship to knowledge.

Some of the works in the show were created during Jason’s residency at Anchor Graphics early in 2013. The exhibition runs through December 10 at Dittmar on Northwestern’s Evanston campus.
