Jessica Cochran, Curator of Exhibitions and Programs at the Center for Book and Paper Arts, has had a busy month!

Opening November 1 at the Chicago Artists Coalition, Twelve Variations: Hatch Artist Residents In Context, is an exhibition curated by Cochran that paired each one of her resident artists to a non-resident artist with whom they shared a strong link in the form of a shared thematic orientation or conceptual framework. Cochran has been working with six artists throughout the year-long curatorial and artist HATCH residency program at the Chicago Artists Coalition. The Twelve Variations exhibition is not necessarily a show of “paired works” but a group exhibition full of new associations. On November 2, The Franklin, an outdoor exhibition space located in East Garfield Park, opened an exhibition titled November, also curated by Cochran. Working dimensionally in mixed media, each artist in this exhibition is known for projects that try, test and push materials such as clay, paper, resin, metal and plaster to new ends using physical and chemical processes. On view for the entire month of November, the artwork’s surfaces and structures will be entirely exposed to (and activated by) wind, rain, snow and sun as Chicago transitions from fall into winter.
