Fall Ushers in Exciting Events for InterArts Book and Paper Alumna

Krista Franklin’s work is familiar to anyone who has been working at CBPA the past three years. As she starts her first post-MFA fall season, her art will be reaching an even wider audience.

Just this month Franklin was awarded an Artist-in-Residency with Arts + Public Life/Center for the Study of Race, Politics and Culture at the University of Chicago. The residency will afford her the opportunity to develop some new bodies of work, as well as working to expand on other ideas from recent explorations. “I’m looking forward to making Washington Park my new creative home over the next several months,” says Franklin.

While the residency was being decided, Krista was already bringing her work into two U.S. group exhibitions scheduled for fall 2013. Recess, curated by Tempestt Hazel, opened this weekend (Friday, October 11) at the South Side Community Art Center in Chicago, and runs through November 9.

Her work will also be appearing in another show, On Paper, curated by Ayanah Moor, in Pittsburgh, PA. The opening reception is on November 1, at 6:00 p.m. at 4925 Penn Avenue, and runs through December 14. A curator’s talk is scheduled for November 20 at 6:00 p.m. For more information on the upcoming reception and curator talk, email the gallery at onpaper@inbox.com
