CBPA Exhibition Named by NewCity as a “Standout Show of 2012”

Artist, critic, and curator Pedro Vélez summed up the year in art for 2012 in the NewCity Eye Exam column of December 18. His list, which encompassed not only Chicago, but exhibitions across the entire midwestern United States, included the CBPA’s Johanna Drucker retrospective Druckworks: 40 Years of Books and Projects by Johanna Drucker. The exhibition ran at CBPA from September 6 through December 7, 2012, and presented a comprehensive look at Drucker’s books, graphic art, and visual projects.

Johanna Drucker visited the Center both for the installation and opening of the exhibition, and to participate in the accompanying Roundtable discussion Tactics & Technologies: Artists’ Books and Means of Production held in early November.

The exhibition’s catalog features commentary and essays by over twenty critics, scholars and artists including Jerome McGann, Marjorie Perloff, Emily McVarish, and Craig Dworkin, and is available on Amazon.com.

Druckworks travels next to the Denison University Museum, where it will open on February 8. From there it will continue on to the San Francisco Center for the Book, where it will be on display from May–August, 2013.
