“The Future of Letterpress” panel & TYPEFACE screening at Southside Hub of Production (SHOP)

The Center for Book and Paper Arts is pleased to be collaborating with a new alternative artist-run space in Hyde Park, Southside Hub of Production, on programming for their December Reproduce+Ability exhibition.

December 3, 2011:

Panel Discussion and Screening: 7pm

Following a screening of the award winning film TYPEFACE, organized by South Side Projections at the Southside Hub of Production (SHOP), Center for Book and Paper Arts Studio Technician and Special Projects Coordinator April Sheridan will moderate a roundtable discussion on the history and future of letterpress printing. Other panelists include Justine Nagan (director, TYPEFACE); Martha Chiplis (School of the Art Institute of Chicago); Celene Aubrey (Lillstreet Art Center); and Dan Wang (radical printer and activist).

Letterpress Exhibition Kickoff

This screening and panel kicks off a letterpress exhibition, curated by April Sheridan, as an extension of the Center for Book and Paper Arts’ current exhibition, Wood Type, Evolved: Letterpress and Relief Printing in the 21st Century. This letterpress exhibition is part of SHOP’s month-long Reproduce+Ability exhibition, which emphasizes reproducible art and the techniques used to make it.

Southside Hub of Production (SHOP) is a collective of artists, writers, filmmakers, craftspeople, educators, and local civic organizations who have come together to create a local cultural hub space in Hyde Park, Chicago. SHOP’s main aim is to stimulate local cultural activity and to foster artistic and cultural enrichment of all kinds in the neighbor.
