The Center for Book and Paper Arts is pleased to announce an evening dedicated to the work of pioneering multimedia artist Edwin Torres— a special performance, reception and exhibition viewing organized in collaboration with the Poetry Foundation and the Columbia College Poetry Program. Performance Poetry in the Age of Language, a “reading beyond text” will be immediately followed by a reception at the Center for Book and Paper Arts, where an exhibition of his graphic work, Poesís: The Visual Language of Edwin Torres, will be on view.

About Edwin Torres

Edwin Torres is a bi-lingualisualist, rooted in the languages of sight and sound. His performances intermingle poetry with vocal & physical improvisation, sound-elements and visual theater. He’s collaborated with a wide range of artists and was a founding member of the poetry collective, Nuyorican Poets Cafe Live, touring worldwide in the 90′s. His debut CD “Holy Kid” (Kill Rock Stars) was included in The Whitney Museum Of Ameri…can Art’s exhibition “The American Century Pt. II.” He’s been the recipient of fellowships from NYFA, The Foundation for Contemporary Performance Art and The Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, among others. He’s performed extensively overseas and has taught at many universities, including Naropa University’s Summer Writing Program, where he will be teaching this summer. He is the author of 6 books, including, “In The Function of External Circumstances” (Nightboat Books), “The PoPedology of an Ambient Language” (Atelos Books) and most recently “Yes Thing No Thing” (Roof Books).
