AEMM Faculty Published Again
A case study co-written by Assistant Professor JustinSinkovitch, Assistant Professor Jerry Brindisi and Chair Philippe Ravanas was recently accepted for publication by the International Journal of Arts Management (IJAM), a leading peer-reviewed academic publication in our field, distributed in 40 countries and listed in the Journal Citations Reports.
The case study called: Pitchfork: Birth of an Indie Music Mega Brand explains how, in 1995, 19-year old Ryan Schreiber launched Pitchfork, a website dedicated to sharing his uncompromising taste for independent and underground music, and how the Chicago-based company has since become the most prominent brand in online music journalism.
The idea for the article came after Justin Sinkovich secured Schreiber as keynote speaker for the 2011 Commencement. Access to information was greatly facilitated by the fact that several Pitchforck executives (including the President, the Editor-in-Chief and theGeneral Manager) are or have been teaching as adjuncts in AEMM.
This will be the 7th article that AEMM faculty members contribute to IJAM over the past 5 years. A case study written two years ago featuring the Chicago Symphony by Philippe Ravanas was recently cited by two peer-reviewed publications: the International Journal of Cultural Policy and the Journal of Arts Management, Law, and Society. This case study was also recently cited in two books: La sperimentazione nei processi di produzione teatrale written by two professors of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice (one of the best business schools in Italy), and The Perilous Life of Symphony Orchestras: Artistic Triumphs and Economic Challenges written by Robert Flanagan, Professor at Standford Graduate School of Business and published by Yale University Press.
